This is not only Firenze's best pizza but one of the best in Italy. Posts on here are only as good as the credibility of one who posts. If I have any credibility at all-go to Sostanza! Along with Cibreo it is one of the two best restaurants in Firenze excluding the three star Enoteca Pinchiorri.
Coccinella is high up. A gorgeous day and from in town, the Alps, from the French side in the west, to the area north of Milan, stood out spectacularly. To start, for both of us, a pasta dish that will be hard to beat in the next two months. Very thin tajarin with a large amount of local spugnole (morels) and asparagus. Exquisite!
Roma Sparita provided exactly what we were hoping for in cucina romana. The clientele appeared to be mostly Italian (on a Wednesday night) and the service was warm and efficient. The rooms are plain but the food is memorable. I would say that the amatriciana was the best I had in Rome. On the way home we stopped for a tartufo at Tre Scalini.

Using Elizabeth Minchili's Eat Italy App we chose Banco vini e alimenti, which according to her, is a very unfancy, sister restaurant to Consorzio. I really loved my lunch–a glass of Franciacorta, a tiny, but absolutely scrumptious pork sandwhich and a small plate with chicken paté and perfect toast.
You can post any wine you buy in the Piemonte back from Mail Boxes Etc in Alba, who are professional and seem to pack the wine well. It's better to do so in increments of 12 bottles, in terms of the pricing.
At her NYC chocolate shop Stick With Me Sweets, Susanna Yoon (formerly of Per Se) makes edible miniature works of art. These colorful, marbleized, portable chocolate domes are packed with the flavors and textures of some of Susanna’s favorite desserts, which include a kalamansi meringue pie, and the vero, a silver blue bonbon that houses a mix of sea salt caramel and crunchy pecan bits.

Heading to Italy for 10 days on Nov. 21. First time for me, and second time for my wife who hasn't been there in about 20 years. We're starting in Venice for a couple days, then off to Bologna (or Modena) for 2 days, Florence for another 3 days and ending in Rome for 3 days.
We were in Trento for a quick visit last summer (no time for dining and it is a fantastic city, highly recommended. Id like to return to the Trentino/Alto Adige area , as well as do more touring in the small wine communes on the Valpolicella side of Lago di Garda.
The central section of Parma is lovely and there is delicious food there, rich and creamy given the area and its specialties of cheese and ham. We had an unforgettable saturday lunch at La Filoma (still there) 25 years ago - the memory is based on the convivial, buoyant mood of the place, extremely pleasant environment as well as the very good ...
Villa Feltrinelli is open only from Easter to late October. Veggies are grown open air and on glasshouses along with the local lemons. We had a chef's taste menu and it was great: caramelised mushrooms, foie gras, raw oyster with gazpacho, raw fishes, lemon risotto, lake fish, one hundreds flowers salad, fruits and herbs macedonia, Petit fours to finish.
Also, some people claim that the best pizza is in San Lorenzo. Formula Uno is the place of choice, cheap and cheerful. I like the wafer thin pizza at Vecchia Conca better (via Carlo Alberto, by Santa Maria Maggiore), but there they cost 9 even 10 euros, which is enough to send my Roman friends gasping for air.

But mainly I head straight for the historic covered food market, the Mercato Orientale. It has fantastic offerings, is lovely to circumnavigate and has one or two coffee bars inside (along the periphery) where every bottle is so dusty that surely one of them is a bottle of S.Maria al Monte.
Hi, I will be in Italy for 2 weeks and going from Rome(3n) to Tuscany(4n) to Venice(3n) and finally departing in Milan. I am really in a dilemma whether I should spend the remaining 2 nights in Bologna or Turin.
I think Erica another poster here tried and recommended Da Rodo in Nettuno a couple of years ago. Its a pick in Fred Plotkin's book. - maybe he will surface for a minute for an Anzio/Nettuno update. Whole fish and some of the pricier seafood really can drive up the price of eating in these coastal places.

Googs, given that a week from now will be August. Do check ahead of time to make sure the restaurants you want to go to are open. I'm going to Rome in a couple of weeks too and in my research and as many CHers on the Rome board will tell you, many restaurants close in August.

You can find some great stuff in Valladolid. Park around the square (180 libre goes right through centro). Small markets here and restaurants as well. On your travels, do stop in Tulum for roadside chicken, its fantastic, and cheap. 1/2 grilled chicken with spaghetti, salad, rice, tortillas and a coke in the bottle will set you back maybe $5 or so.

Caseificio Borderi (Syracuse) We didn’t originally plan to go, but were convinced to try it by a Michigan family who were raving about it. Key takeaway: a really good sandwich but not sure would go out of our way for it (which you kind of have to - we waited in line ~30min at 10:30am).

Not sure where you're coming from but high end Italian is available at nearby Il Mulino (NY based italian restaurant). Good, heavy food. I also like the new restaurant Mio, next door to Il Mulino. Both are on Vermont Ave. at about 14th Street, NW.

I live in Philadelphia, but get to Racine at least twice a year. And it's definitely Bendtsen's, 3200 Washington Ave., just down the block and across the street from Larsen's. Every time I go to Racine I stop by. And if I find myself in Chicago, well, Racine's only 90 minutes away from the Magnificent Mile and worth the detour.
Anyone have any experience at this new restaurant in Avon? We've been invited to go there tomorrow night and we were wondering what people thought. Food, service, ambience? Any menu item that shouldn't be missed? This is the former Cugino's, before that was Italia and a long time ago was a bar-b-q rib place.
They used to make Cornish Pasties and sell them one-by-one. They were kind of like empanadas, a pastry crust filled with meat and potatoes. The couple, whose name escapes me, went into business, and for a few years I saw Cornish Pasties in the frozen food section of lots of San Diego markets.
